The Aapravasi Ghat Trust Fund AGTF<\/strong> is a body corporate under the aegis of the Ministry of Arts and Culture. It was created in 2001 by the Government of the Republic of Mauritius through Act of Parliament to manage and promote the Aapravasi Ghat Site. The site was declared National Monument under the National Monuments Act in 1987(GN31\/87) and subsequently proclaimed National Heritage in 2003 under the National Heritage Fund Act 2003<\/a>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The AGTF was entrusted
<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. to establish, administer, manage, promote and maintain the Aapravasi Ghat as a national, regional and international heritage site<\/li>\n
  2. to preserve, restore and manage the Aapravasi Ghat and related sites<\/li>\n
  3. to set up a museum and create public awareness of the history of indentured labour<\/li>\n
  4. to promote the social and cultural aspects of the Aapravasi Ghat and related sites<\/li>\n
  5. to encourage and support projects and publications related to the indentured labour<\/li>\n
  6. to establish links with appropriate national, regional and international organisations in line with the objects of the Act<\/li>\n
  7. to identify and acquire sites, buildings and structures associated with indentured labour<\/li>\n

    The Trust\u2019s guiding principles include:<\/strong><\/p>

    1. To support activities related to Indentured Labour immigration.<\/li>
    2. To support projects that benefit all Mauritians and in which Mauritians from all walks of life can participate. This includes the conceptualization, planning and execution of projects.<\/li>
    3. To restore the links with the past and our origins those have been broken as a result of rapid modernization and to restore pride for our\u00a0 Indenture Heritage.<\/li>
    4. To carry our projects in a democratic spirit, in a historically accurate way and in full respect of the multi-cultural society in which we live.<\/li>
